About Legalisation

What legalisation is:

Legalisation confirms the authenticity of a document as well as the validity of the signature, stamp, and the capacity of the competent authority who issued it. 

When it is required:

Legalisation is required when documents issued in the UAE are to be used abroadm including for the purposes of:

  • opening corporate bank accounts with foreign banks
  • registering branches and representative offices abroad
  • submitting documents to government and/or regulatory authorities of a foreign jurisdiction
Documents & Requirements

Document requirements:

To be accepted for legalization, corporate documents must be:

  • attested by the competent authority of the free zone;
  • provided either electronically with a QR code or verification link, or as originals bearing the wet-ink signature and stamp of the free zone's authority;
  • Power of Attorneys must be notarized or certified as true copies by relevant registration authorities.

Standard corporate documents subject to legalisation:

  • Certificate of Incorporation / Formation
  • Articles of Association (AoA) / Memorandum of Association
  • License
  • Certificate of Incumbency
  • Certificate of Good Standing
  • Commercial Register Extract
  • Register of Shareholders / Directors
  • Tax Residence Certificate (FTA)
  • Corporate Tax Registration Certificate (FTA)
  • VAT Registration Certificate (FTA)
  • Board / Shareholders' Resolutions
Process & Conditions

Process:

  1. Package verification. Documents are checked for completeness and accuracy.
  2. Legalisation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  3. Consular legalisation. Documents are legalised at the embassy or consulate in the UAE of the destination country.
  4. Delivery of originals. The finalised documents are delivered by courier upon request.

General conditions:

(!) In accordance with the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, each document is legalised separately.

(!) Bound or stapled document sets are not accepted.

(!) Expedited legalisation at MOFA UAE - Same Day and Next Day options - are available through Monday to Thursday and are subject to submission cut-off times. The expedited service is not available on Fridays.

(!) Same Day processing is available for up to 5 documents, Next Day for up to 25 documents.

Timelines may vary depending on:

  • the workload of the consulate/embassy
  • the availability of an appointment slot at the consulate/embassy (Kazakhstan)
  • the accuracy of the documents provided.
