Tax Regime and Profit Management

The UAE has several taxes and fees that regulate the financial activities of both legal entities and individuals. Below are the main ones:

  1. Value Added Tax (VAT):
    • Since January 1, 2018, the UAE has implemented a 5% VAT rate. The UAE is among the top 10 countries globally with the lowest VAT rate as of 2023.
    • Foreign companies in the oil and gas sector are subject to a 55% rate, and foreign banks face a 20% rate.
    • Companies with an annual turnover exceeding AED 375,000 are required to register with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) as VAT taxpayers.

    • Starting from January 1, 2023, when purchasing items worth more than AED 300 from foreign online platforms, a 5% customs duty and 5% VAT are required. Items below AED 300 are exempt from customs duties.
  5. Personal Income Tax:
    • In the UAE, personal income is not subject to taxation.
    • UAE citizens and residents are exempt from paying taxes on their personal income, including wages, interest, dividends, royalties, inheritances, gifts, capital gains, and other sources of income.

    • Allows the visa holder to reside and work legally in the country.
    • Requires education and qualification confirmation in their respective field.
    • Issued for a duration of 2 years and can be renewed upon the renewal of the employment contract.
  3. Dependent Visa: Family Visa, Maid's Visa:
    • Provided to family members and accompanying domestic workers (such as housekeepers, nannies, etc.) of the applicant, who will be the sponsor in the visa process.
    • Allows holders to reside in the UAE.
    • The applicant (sponsor) is required to provide:
      • relationship proof and ability to house and finance dependents;
      • wage amount confirmation: at least AED 10,000 basic salary for women, and AED 5,000 for men;
      • Investor, Partner, or Manager designation in visa.
    • Issued for a period of 2 years, during which the applicant must stay in the country.
